History of the Hungarian lacrosse.

Early history - the Budapest Blax Lacrosse
The first Hungarian lacrosse team was founded in the beginning of 2008 in the capital city of Hungary. Couple of enthusiastic youngsters (led by Ferenc Sződy) saw this game (especially the games of the National Lacrosse League) on television and fell in love with lacrosse. Since there were no lacrosse teams in Hungary at all (only an inter-crosse team was operating at Szombathely) they’ve decided to start lacrosse working in our country by founding the first ever lacrosse team of Hungary, the Budapest Blax Lacrosse.
The new team faced much difficulties recruiting new players because lacrosse is an unknown team sport in Hungary. But the club got a lot of help from the European Lacrosse Federation by promoting the teams contacts to foreign players who studied in Hungary. This way the Blax recruited
Marten Jager from Germany, the first coach of the team. Also the European Lacrosse Federation organized a clinic at Budapest held by Peter J. Mundy president of the E.L.F. Also the team got some equipment support from the federation.
In 2008 Budapest Blax presented the lacrosse to the people at a major nationwide sports event (Nagy Sportágválasztó). Lacrosse have been also represented by the team two times in 2009 and 2010.
In November 2008 the Budapest Blax invited the Slovakian team
Bratislava Bats for a friendly match.
In March 2009 the team sent players to Vienna for the FIL referee clinic and the players came home with FIL white referee licenses.
Also in March 2009 the Blax travelled to Bratislava, Slovakia to be the quest of the
Bratislava Bats and play a game against the home team and the Vienna Cherokees.
After getting in touch with the Austrian Lacrosse Federation (ÖLaxV) the team decided to participate the Austrian Lacrosse League (A.L.L.) 2009 championship. In September 2009 Budapest held a playoff game day.
In the beginning of 2010 Budapest organized an international invitational field lacrosse event. The guest teams were the
Graz Gladiators (Austrian), the Vienna White Coats (Austrian) and the Ljubljana Dragons (Slovenia). The event was very successful.
In May 2010 the Budapest Blax started to play in the A.L.L. 2010.
During the Spring of 2010
Rita Elekes and a couple of girls joined the Budapest Blax Lacrosse and until the end of the Summer of 2010 a complete women’s team formed.

Getting organized - the Hungarian Lacrosse Federation
In the beginning of Summer 2010 George Rohonczy from New York, NY contacted the Budapest Blax Lacrosse with the intention to build a national team. Since there were no such efforts before, Hungary was not even a member of any international lacrosse federations he started to work hard. He contacted the FIL (the general assembly had meeting in Manchester, England during the FIL Lacrosse World Cup) and made the organization to acknowledge Hungary as a member of the European Lacrosse Federation.
In 2010 the Hungarian Lacrosse Federation started to work hard to build new teams in Hungary and build a national team for the 2012 European Lacrosse Championship.
